Baseball Announces Class of 2021

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Head coach Grant Achilles of the Brown University baseball program is pleased to announce the addition of seven incoming student-athletes, set to join the roster for the 2018 campaign. Brown's class of 2021 is made up of seven pitchers and position players from six different states, including two from Florida.

"Coach Mike McCormack and coach Jonathan Grosse worked tirelessly to put together this recruiting class, one that continues to improve our athleticism while adding depth at key positions," said Achilles. "The character of these men will be evident both on and off of the field during their time on College Hill."

Ryan Fisch
6-3 | 200
Sugar Land, Texas
Clements High School

Before Brown: Played outfield and pitched at Clements High School … Texas Academic All-State … Sugar Land Skeeters Student-Athlete of the Month.

Achilles on Fisch: "Ryan has a lean frame with room to grow, and pitches downhill consistently while attacking the zone with aggression.  His sharp secondary pitches make it difficult for hitters to stay on balance, and should give him a chance to pitch early and often during his career."

Louis Gaitley
6-2 | 175
San Francisco, California
St. Ignatius College Prep

Before Brown: Played shortstop for St. Ignatius College Prep … First Team All-League … Perfect Game California Region Honorable Mention … also played for Norcal Baseball and Dodgers Scout Team.

Achilles on Gaitley: "Louis is a smooth and sure-handed defender with the ability to play any infield position. He will provide immediate depth while competing for innings both in the lineup and on the mound."

Collin Garner
6-1 | 170
St. Augustine, Florida
Allen D. Nease High School

Before Brown: Played both infield and pitcher at Allen D. Nease High School … two-time First Team All-Conference … First Team Florida Athletic Coaches Association and All-County in 2016 … Nease Offensive Player of the Year in 2015 … Four-time Academic Excellence Letter recipient.

Achilles on Garner: "Collin brings great pitchability, showing good fastball command and a proven out pitch. He provides a different look from our pitching staff, and will be looked to as an athlete with versatility at multiple positions."

Jack Gersten
5-10 | 200
Atlanta, Georgia
North Springs High School

Before Brown: Four-year varsity starter at North Springs High School … Team captain … North Springs Offensive Player of the Year in 2016 … Honor Roll … Georgia Certificate of Merit … also played for Georgia Jackets National and the Sunbelt League Baseball.

Achilles on Gersten: "Jack is a right-handed hitter with the threat for power to all fields.  His strength should provide support for the middle of our order, and the impact of his bat will continue to translate with his development and discipline."

Joe Lomuscio
6-2 | 175
West Roxbury, Massachusetts
Roxbury Latin

Before Brown: Played outfield and pitched at Roxbury Latin High School … team captain … All-League selection … also a member of the football team at Roxbury Latin.

Achilles on Lomuscio: "Joe brings above average speed and athleticism with him to Providence, and is a top defender in the outfield. A three-sport athlete in high school, Joe is only beginning to come into his own as a high-level baseball player with a chance to impact our team immediately."

Pat Petteruti
5-11 | 165
East Greenwich, R.I.
Moses Brown

Before Brown: Team captain at Moses Brown … played outfield and pitched … Rhode Island Scholar Athlete Award … RIBCA Underclassman All-Star … Rhode Island Science Olympiad Gold Medal.

Achilles on Petteruti: "Pat is a solid left-hander who will add much needed depth in that role out of the bullpen. His ability to vary speed and location will make him a tough pitcher to face at the college level."

Brennan Vasquez
6-2 | 200
Milton, Florida
Milton High School

Before Brown: Played catcher and pitched for Milton High School … hit .476 with a 0.96 ERA as a senior at Milton … Subway All-Star … National Merit Scholar … National Hispanic Scholar.

Achilles on Vasquez: "Brennan is a power-hitting left handed bat with explosive arm strength both behind the dish and on the mound. His ability to impact the game both offensively and defensively should be felt from the time he steps foot on campus.
