KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior Rob Henry (Cranston, R.I.) recorded a pair of hits, but Rhode Island broke a tie game with a walk-off homer in the 10th inning, as the Brown baseball team fell on the road, 5-2, in Tuesday's non-conference matchup at Bill Beck Field.
URI improved to 16-13 while the Bears dropped to 9-14 on the season.
Henry posted his sixth multiple-hit game of the season and added one run scored. Rookie Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) tossed six strong innings as the starter, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts. Samuel Hauser (New York, N.Y.) took the loss in relief and Jake Rockefeller earned the win out of the bullpen for the home team.
URI scored first in the bottom of the third when Chris Hess hit an RBI single to center field, but the Bears tied the game in the fifth, as Rich Ciufo (Medford, N.Y.) drove home Brian Ginsberg (Los Angeles, Calif.) on a sacrifice fly.
Marc Sredojevic (Mendham, N.J.) gave the Bears a one-run lead in the sixth when he sent home Henry with a sacrifice bunt. However, the Rams evened the score in the seventh frame on Greg Cavaliere's groundout to second base.
JJ Sliepka (Houston, Texas) kept the Rams off the scoreboard over the next two frames, but the Rams broke through in the 10th inning, when Matt O'Neil hit a three-run homer over the right field fence.
Brown will return to Ivy League play this weekend when they visit Dartmouth for a four-game series.
