PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rookie Rich Ciufo (Medford, N.Y.) registered two hits and one RBI, but the Brown baseball team fell to Bryant, 7-2, in Wednesday's non-conference contest at Murray Stadium.
Bryant improved to 4-17 overall and Brown dropped to 6-8 on the season.
Ciufo went 2-for-4 with a double and also drove in one run, while Nick Angelini paced the Bulldog offense with three hits.
Vito Morgese earned the win for the Bulldogs as he went 6.2 innings with two earned runs and five strikeouts. Sophomore Bobby Leyman (North Hampton, N.H.) was handed the loss for the Bears as he allowed four runs as the starter.
Bryant opened the contest with four runs on three hits in the first frame, highlighted by Jimmy Titus, who hit a three-run double to right center.
The Bears responded in the bottom of the second as Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) hit a leadoff single and then scored when Jake Rosander (Fullerton, Calif.) doubled to left field. Ciufo sent home Rosander with a one-out single to left field, trimming the deficit to two runs.
After Chris Wright gave Bryant a three-run lead with a solo homer in the fifth, the Bryant pitching staff held the Bears to just one hit over the final four innings, while Mickey Gasper gave the visitors a pair of insurance runs with a two-run home run in the top of the ninth.
Calvin Farris (San Diego, Calif.) led off the bottom half of the inning with a pinch-hit single, but Craig Lacey followed with three straight outs to secure the win.
Brown will open up Ivy League play this weekend when the Bears visit Cornell (4/1) and Princeton (4/2).
