PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Christian Taugner (Roselle, Ill.) tossed seven scoreless innings to lead the Brown baseball team to a shutout win over Georgetown, 2-0, in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Murray Stadium.
Brown improved to 5-6 with its fifth-straight win, while the Hoyas dropped to 13-9 overall.
Taugner earned his second win of the season as he kept the Hoyas off the board through seven innings and added four strikeouts. Samuel Hauser (New York, N.Y.) pitched a scores eighth, before JJ Sliepka (Houston, Texas) shut the door in the ninth to pick up his second save.
Brown scored the only runs of the game in the bottom of the third frame, when Sam Grigo (Westbrook, Conn.) hit a two-out double to right center. Huntley then hit an RBI single to center and advanced to second on the throw home, before Sredojevic followed with another single to right field to push the Bears in front, 2-0.
The Hoyas threatened with at least one hit in each of the next four innings, but Taugner kept the visitors off the board heading into the eighth, when Hauser came in for three straight outs.
Sliepka finished with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, including one strikeout, to seal the shutout win.
Brown will take on Georgetown in the game two of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
