Former Pitcher Carlow to Join Cardinals at Spring Training
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Brown University standout pitcher Kevin Carlow (Mystic, Conn.) has signed as a non-drafted free agent with the St. Louis Cardinals organization and will report to extended spring training on April 4, 2014.
Carlow, a right-handed pitcher who graduated from Brown in 2013, will join the Cardinals for extended spring training in Jupiter, Florida with a chance to earn a shot at the organization's Short Season-A affiliate in State College, Pennsylvania.
Carlow stepped up in various pitching roles throughout his four-year tenure with the Bears, including 25 starts as a starter. He enjoyed an impressive freshman campaign when he led the team in earned run average, strikeouts, wins and complete games. He also threw three complete games in just six starts. Carlow made eight starts as a senior last season, tied for first on the team, and ranked fourth in the Ivy League with 55 strikeouts.
Brown opens the 2014 campaign on Friday, March 7 when they open a three-game series at No. 6 South Carolina at 7 p.m.
