PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Wes Van Boom (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) of the Brown baseball team has been named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Region second team, announced on Tuesday.
Van Boom and the rest of the Division I All-New England selections will compete against the Division II/III All-Stars in the NEIBA All-Star game on Monday, June 3 at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
Van Boom appeared in all 40 games with 39 starts for the Bears, providing power in the middle of the lineup in addition to handling the pitching staff as the team's primary catcher. The junior registered 34 hits and drove in 19 runs to go along with eight doubles and three home runs. Van Boom was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week on April 23 following an impressive four-game set against Harvard. He led Brown to a split with the Crimson, batting .500 (8-of-16) in the four games. In the two wins for the Bears, Van Boom batted .625 (5-of-8) with five runs, two home runs and five RBI.
