BATON ROUGE, La. - The Brown baseball team was held to six hits in a 7-1 loss at Louisiana State in the second game of a doubleheader from Alex Brown Stadium Saturday evening.
The Bears fell to 1-2 on the season with the loss to the ninth-ranked Tigers. Both losses this season have been at the hands of LSU, which defeated Brown 4-3 on Friday night in the season opener for the Bears.
Senior first baseman Cody Slaughter was the only Bear to have a multi-hit performance. He had two singles and accounted for the Bears' only run by reaching on an error in the second inning, scoring Wes Van Boom, who had doubled.
Senior Heath Mayo took the loss on the mound for Brown. He surrendered 11 hits and five earned runs in 5.2 innings while walking four and striking out three. All five earned runs came in the second inning. Lucas Whitehill threw 2.1 innings of relief, allowing two earned runs in the eighth.
LSU, ranked No. 9 in the latest Baseball America national rankings, improved to 9-1 on the season with the win.
