Spring Academic All-Ivy Announced
The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2013 spring Academic All-Ivy, with 10 Brown student-athletes earning recognition. The five men and five women were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

CHICAGO – John Sheridan (Palo Alto, Calif.), a senior outfielder on the Brown baseball team, has been selected as one of 15 finalists for the TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Wes Van Boom (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) of the Brown baseball team has been named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Region second team, announced on Tuesday.

PRINCETON, N.J. – Will Marcal (Lexington, Mass.), a sophomore outfielder on the Brown baseball team, was recently named Second Team All-Ivy for his efforts during the 2013 season, announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.

Sheridan, Slaughter Named CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Selections
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seniors John Sheridan (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Cody Slaughter (New Port Richey, Fla.) of the Brown baseball team were recently honored for their achievements on the field and in the classroom as both were named to the Capital One Academic All-District I team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Baseball Edged by Rhode Island, 5-2, in Extra Innings
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kevin Carlow (Mystic, Conn.) threw six scoreless innings on the mound for the Bears, but Rhode Island tied the game in the seventh to force extra innings and then scored three runs in the 11th inning as the Brown baseball team fell, 5-2, in the season finale Thursday at Murray Stadium.

Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Marist
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tim McKeithan (Arden, N.C.) hit a one-run single in the sixth inning to snap a 7-7 tie and push the Brown baseball team to a 10-7 victory over Marist in game one, and Anthony Galan (Watchung, N.J.) pitched the full seven innings in a 4-3 game one win on Wednesday at Murray Stadium.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kevin Carlow (Mystic, Conn.) pitched seven solid innings on the mound in the opener, but the Brown baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Yale as the Bears fell, 3-1 and 7-2, to wrap up Ivy League play on Saturday at Murray Stadium.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After securing a 4-2 victory against Harvard in the second game of Sunday’s home doubleheader, the Brown baseball team remained on the field and held a head-shaving event to support the Vs. Cancer Foundation in the fight against childhood cancer.

The following day, the team will face Nicholls State at 3:00 pm CST before playing a second contest versus #4 LSU at 7:30 pm CST. The Bears will finish the weekend with a 12:00 pm CST game against Nicholls State on Sunday.

Thirty NCAA® baseball student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as candidates yesterday for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate baseball, including Brown senior co-captain, John Sheridan (Palo, Alto, CA). To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The Brown men’s baseball team will host its 2013 Baseball Hot Stove Dinner on Friday, February 8 at the Brown Faculty Club in Providence, Rhode Island.
