URI’s Offense Powers Rams Past Brown

Kingston, R.I. – The Brown baseball took on in-state rival Rhode Island on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field, but it was URI's offense that stood strong, tallying17 hits on its way to a 13-4 Rams win. Sophomore catcher Wes Van Boom (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) led the way for the Bears with a two-run home run in the seventh.

URI (25-16) took an early 3-0 lead after the second inning and went on to expand upon its advantage in each of the next six innings tallying at least one run in each frame and two in four of the innings. First baseman Jeff Cammans was the star for the Rams, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, while pitcher Liam O'Sullivan improved to 5-0 on the season with a seven-inning, five hit, two-run performance.

The Rams lead 10-0 after six innings, but Brown (8-29) allied two runs in the seventh and one each in the eighth and ninth innings to make a late charge, but could not overcome the deficit.

Van Boom's homer in the seventh put the Bears on the board, while senior Graham Tyler's (Cranston, R.I.) RBI single in the eighth and sophomore Daniel Massey's (Greensboro, N.C.) RBI groundout in the ninth, helped to further cut into the lead, but Brown could not overcome the large deficit.

Rookie Will Marcal (Lexington, Mass.) and senior Mike DiBiase (Weston, Mass.) each went 2-for-4 in the game, but Brown's pitching could not keep pace with the Rams as URI's early lead held up throughout.

Brown will celebrate its senior day in a Friday afternoon doubleheader against Yale at Murray Stadium.
