Marcal Named Top Ivy Rookie For Second-Consecutive Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the second-consecutive week outfielder Will Marcal (Lexington, Mass.) earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the league office this afternoon. Marcal batted .400 on the week with a home run, triple, stolen base and five runs as the Bears walked off with two wins over strong foes in UConn and Dartmouth.

The first-year standout totaled 13 bases in five games last week and also led the team in hits (eight), runs, steals while registering 10 putouts while manning right field.

Brown went 2-3 last week, but picked up signature wins getting a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth to down one of the BIG EAST's best in Connecticut. The Bears also started their four-game series against Dartmouth off in style, with an extra-inning RBI walk-off.

Marcal leads the team in home runs this season (five) and is batting .298 on the year. He has totaled team-highs with 25 runs, 36 hits, 61 total bases and a .504 slugging percentage. The rookie has also posted eight doubles and 21 RBI.

Junior first baseman Cody Slaughter (New Port Richey, Fla.) was also named to the Ivy League Honor Roll, batting .333 (6-for-17) with two doubles, a home run and six RBI.

The Bears have a midweek doubleheader against Holy Cross on Wednesday, April 18, to close a 13-game homestand, before heading to Harvard for a four-game set this weekend.
