Late Comeback Pushes Pacific Past Brown, 5-4
Stockton, Calif. – Brown jumped out to a 1-0 lead against the Pacific Tigers on Sunday afternoon, and expanded their lead to 4-1 by the top of the seventh inning, but a late Tiger comeback with three runs in the eighth inning gave Pacific the win over the Bears, 5-4.
Brown (1-10) out-hit Pacific (7-16) 11-9 in the contest, but it was the Tigers clutch, late hitting that sealed the win.
Pacific right fielder Allen Riley delivered with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to give the Tigers their first lead and the eventual victory.
Brown sophomore starter Anthony Galan (Watchung, N.J.) was great through seven innings, allowing just six hits and one earned run, but in the eighth, the Tigers were finally able to get to him, getting three hits and three runs to take the lead.
After Brown got on the board in the third, they increased their lead to three in the top of the fifth with a two RBI double from sophomore catcher Wes Van Boom (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.).
Van Boom was at it again in the seventh as his single to center plated rookie Will Marcal (Lexington, Mass.) for a 4-1 Brown lead. Van Boom finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Junior center fielder John Sheridan (Palo Alto, Calif.) joined Brown's second-year catcher as the only two players in the game to have three hits. Sheridan went 3-for-3 with a stolen base.
Brown and Pacific wrap up their four-game series Monday night at 9 p.m., EST.
