Baseball America Tabs Zrenda as Preseason All-Ivy Team Selection
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The preseason accolades keep rolling in the Brown Bear baseball team. Baseball America has announced their preseason awards and senior Ryan Zrenda has been chosen as the top third baseman in the Ivy League, heading into the 2011 season. The Bears were also chosen to finish second in the Rolfe Division.
Zrenda had a breakout offensive season for Brown putting together career numbers in various power categories. In Ivy League play, he hit .423 and finished first on the team in home runs (seven) and total bases (63). The third baseman also finished second on the team with 33 hits, while his .808 slugging percentage was good for third on the squad.
Overall, Zrenda hit .357 with 11 home runs, 13 doubles, 30 RBI, 35 runs, and a .637 slugging percentage, while being one of only three players to start all 44 games; the second consecutive season he has done so. He also drew 11 walks to push his on base percentage to .406, while totaling 109 bases on the season. While manning the hot corner defensively, he had 101 assists with a .940 fielding percentage and even pitched two-thirds of an inning, retiring both batters that he faced.
