Kingston, R.I. – The Rhode Island Rams rolled over Brown on Wednesday afternoon, opening their 2010 home season with a 15-4 victory over the Bears. With the loss, Brown falls to 1-7 on the season, while Rhode Island improves to 4-9 overall after Wednesday’s action.
The game started slowly, with neither team crossing the plate in the first inning. However, beginning in the second frame, Rhode Island’s offense settled into a nearly unstoppable groove, consistently putting together multi-run innings for the remainder of the game. The Rams really broke out in the bottom of the sixth, tacking on seven runs to what was already an 8-0 lead to push the margin to 15-0.
Brown’s bats found some life in the top of the seventh though, as Bruno put up three runs to get on the scoreboard. Sophomore Daniel Rosoff came up with the big hit in the inning, knocking a three-run double to left center field for his second hit of the day. The Bears tacked on one more run in the eighth, but the deficit was too great to overcome, and Rhode Island held on for a 15-4 win.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they travel to Holy Cross to play the Crusaders at 3:30 p.m.
