Providence, R.I. - Brown freshman Brad Kottman (Denton, TX) was named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, recognizing the terrific performance he turned in over the weekend at South Carolina. Playing in a hostile road environment, Kottman entered the game in the third inning, and shut out the Gamecocks for the next 4.1 frames, allowing just four baserunners and giving the Bears an opportunity to climb back into the game.
For the season, Kottman is leading the Bears with a slim 1.04 ERA, allowing just one earned run in 8.2 innings, despite pitching against both LSU and South Carolina, a pair of powerful offenses. Though he has not yet picked up a decision, Kottman has given up just eight hits, while striking out five.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they make the short trip to play at URI at 3:30 p.m.
