Baton Rouge, LA – Brown wrapped up its first road trip of
the 2010 season on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-2 to #1 LSU at Alex
Box Stadium behind a four-run sixth inning from the Tigers. Rookie
Cody Slaughter and senior Nick Punal each picked up two hits and
drove in a run as the Bears scored the first two runs of the game
before a furious rally from LSU.
After a scoreless first, the Bears jumped out on top in the second, scoring a pair of runs without making an out to kick off the frame. Pete Greskoff and Josh Feit reached base on a single and an error respectively, setting the table for Slaughter and Punal, who came up with back-to-back hits to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Tigers retired the next three batters in order, and Brown would not score over the final seven innings.
Senior Rob Wilcox turned in an impressive outing for Bruno, holding LSU off the board for the first three innings, and allowing just two runs through the first five frames. The Tigers finally broke through in the sixth though, driving Wilcox out of the game and scoring four runs to take a 6-2 lead. LSU then added three more runs over the last two innings, pushing the margin to 9-2, where it would remain through the end of the contest.
