Nuzzo Drafted by Toronto Blue Jays

PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown infielder Matt Nuzzo (Everett, MA) was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 24th round (730th overall) of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in early June. Nuzzo, a First Team All-Ivy honoree, becomes the 18th Brown player chosen since MLB began having a draft in 1965 and the seventh player drafted during Head Coach Marek Drabinski's 13 years at Brown. Nuzzo is currently the starting second baseman with the Auburn (NY) Blue Jays of the Short-Season-A New York-Penn League.

The captain of the 2009 squad, Nuzzo enjoyed another terrific all-around season, batting .324 and finishing tied for the team lead with 11 home runs. One of only four players to start every game, Nuzzo also led the squad in RBI's and doubles, at 45 and 14 respectively. Despite moving from shortstop to second base, Nuzzo also continued to provide stellar defensive play, compiling a .959 fielding percentage and ranking second on the team with 93 assists. Nuzzo was voted to the All-Ivy list for the third consecutive season, and made his second appearance on the First Team.
