Feb. 21, 2002
This upcoming weekend, the Bears will compete in the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference regionals at Waterville Valley, NH. The races will be held February 24 and 25.
If the 2002 regular season was a 'warm up', the post-season season should be red hot. The Bears capped off a solid racing season, finishing 2nd in the MacConnell Division, a school best. Aside from one race, the Bears captured top three finishes in the slalom and giant slalom in each carnival they raced this season. The team opened with competition at the UMASS Carnival, capturing 3rd and 2nd in the slalom and giant slalom, respectively.
Two weeks later, the Bears showed their dominance at Loon Mountain for the Brown Carnival, placing 2nd in the slalom and 1st in the giant slalom. The win was a significant one in that it handed undefeated Boston College its first loss.
Like most collegiate teams, the Bears devised a set of goals at the outset of the season. The team set, both, individual and team goals "Both sets of goals were to go hand in hand. We are still looking to peak and reach the highest technical and tactical levels possible." From an individual standpoint, the women are still continually improving. "If everyone can peak at the same time, the results will be phenomenal."
