Bears Win USCSA Eastern Regional Championships

WATERVILLE VALLEY, NH - The Brown women's skiing team hosted finished in a three-way tie for first place at the 2007 USCSA Eastern Regional Championships. The Bears took second in both the Slalom and the Giant Slalom, finishing behind Boston College in the Slalom and Colby Sawyer in the Giant Slalom. All three teams finished the weekend with four points to place first in the Championship. Brown was led by senior Kelly O'Hear (Niagara Falls, NY), who placed first in both the slalom and the giant slalom, as she won her fifth race in a row.
In Saturday's slalom, Brown finished with a total team time of 299.45, just behind BC with 297.73 and just ahead of Colby Sawyer with 304.81. O'Hear led all skiers with a two-run combined time of 1:35.98, nearly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Freshman Elisa Handbury (Sydney, Australia) placed sixth with a total time of 1:40.04, while junior Sophie Elgort (New York, NY) was 12th with a total time of 1:43.43.
The next day in the giant slalom, Brown again placed second with a total time of 411.18, just .15 behind first place Colby Sawyer. BC rounded out the top three with a time of 416.22. O'Hear again led all skiers, placing first with a total time of 2:14.12. Elgort placed seventh with a time of 2:18.27, while sophomore Anna Bengtson (St. Johnsbury, VT) was 10th with a time of 2:18.79. Handbury also finished in the top 15, clocking in at 2:19.88, good for 13th.
The Bears continue action March 5-10th when they travel to Winter Park, CO to participate in the USCSA National Championships.
