Mount Sunapee, NH/Pat's Peak, NH - The Brown women's ski team finished out the regular season on a high note, taking first in the Giant Slalom at the Colby Sawyer Carnival. Despite two crashes by two of Brown's top five skiers in the second run of the Slalom, Brown still held on for third in the Slalom at the St. Anselm Carnival. The results helped Brown close out the regular season in first place in the Macconnell Division with 18 points, 14 ahead of second-place UMass. In addition, sophomore Kelly O'Hear (Niagara Falls, NY) earned her first individual win on Saturday, picking up first in the Slalom with a time of 1:33.92.
Leading the way in Friday's Giant Slalom was junior Hilary Swaffield (Wolfeboro, NH), who took third with a time of 2:05.36. O'Hear was right behind her with a time of 2:05.58. Freshman Sophie Elgort (New York, NY) posted a time of 2:09.05, good for eighth, while sophomore Janet Marley-Mauzy (Westport, CT) earned a 13th place finish with a time of 2:09.77. Freshmen Mallory Taub (Waitsfield, VT) and Meaghan Casey (Bristol, CT) also finished in the top-30, taking 25th and 26th with times of 2:14.51 and 2:14.57, respectively.
Following O'Hear's win in the Slalom, Swaffield claimed 10th with a time of 1:39.38. Marley-Mauzy took 17th with a time of 1:41.45, while Elgort came in right behind her with a time of 1:41.52, good for 18th. Junior Jamie Johnson (North Kingstown, RI) was Brown's other skier in the top-30 with a time of 1:42.85, good for 21st.
For the season, O'Hear finished in 5th overall with 163 net points, while Swaffield finished in 6th with 160 net points.
The Bears continue action this weekend when they participate in the ECSC Regional Championships at Waterville Valley, NH.
