Skiers Take First in Slalom at MIT Carnival and Third in Giant Slalom at Brown Carnival

New Hampshire - The Brown ski team continued its strong performances at the MIT Carnival (Tenney Mountain, NH) on Saturday, February 5, and the Brown Carnival (Loon Mountain, NH) on Sunday, February 6. The Bears won the Slalom at Tenney Mountain with a total mountain 282.25, .03 seconds ahead of second-place Colby-Sawyer. In the Giant Slalom, held at Loon Mountain, Brown took third, with a total time of 354.40, 3.51 behind first-place Boston College.

Individually, sophomore Kelly O'Hear (Niagara Falls, NY) led the Bears in the Slalom with a third place finish, clocking in at 1:31.11. Freshman Sophie Elgort (New York, NY) was the next Brown finisher with a time of 1:35.54, good for 11th place, while junior Hillary Swaffield (Wolfeboro, NH) took 12th with a time of 1:35.60. Sophomore Janet Marley-Mauzy (Westport, CT) also had a good day for Brown, finishing in 15th with a time of 1:38.39.

Other finishers for the Bears in the Slalom included junior Stephanie Breakstone (Sparta, NJ) in 16th (1:40.31), and freshman Mallory Taub (Waitsfield, VT) in 20th (1:43.27).

The next day in the Giant Slalom, Swaffield paced the Bears with a fourth place finish, clocking in at 1:55.43. Marley-Mauzy was next for Brown, earning a sixth place finish with a time of 1:57.78. Taub also had a good day for the Bears, posting a 15th place finish with a time of 2:01.19. Elgort and Breakstone finished in 16th and 17th with times of 2:01.54 and 2:01.76, respectively, while freshman Meaghan Casey (Bristol, CT) posted a time of 2:04.68, good for 25th.

The Bears continue action next weekend when they travel to Ascutney Mountain, VT for the Boston College Carnival.
