The Brown University Women's Skiing Team competed in its second Carnival of the season in Waterville Valley, NH hosted by Plymouth State. The Bears took third place in the slalom and second place in the giant slalom.
Senior Captain Doria DiBona (Waterville Valley, NH) led the way for the Bears as she grabbed fourth place in her hometown in the slalom with a total time of 1:38.46. Skiing her way to seventh place was junior Molly Sheinberg (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) with a time of 140.42.
Also recording a top 20 finish for the Bears was freshman Hilary Swaffield (Wolfeboro, NH) who recorded a time of 1:44.17 with a 16th place finish. As well as freshman Caitlin Stanton (Hanover, NH) who came in 20th with a time of 1:45.25. Rounding out the slalom was freshman Stephanie Breakstone (Sparta, NJ) who grabbed a 21st place finish with a time of 1:46.40.
Brown then skied its way to a second place finish with four racers coming in the top ten. Leading the way once again was DiBona with a total time of 2:13.86 only two seconds off the first place time.
The freshmen trio of Breakstone, Stanton, and Swaffield captured seventh, eighth, and tenth place for the Bears. Breakstone recorded a time of 2:16.36 as she landed a seventh place finish as Stanton grabbed eighth place with a time of 2:16.52. Rounding out the top ten was Swaffield with a time of 2:16.88 in tenth place.
The Bears not only recorded four skiers in the top ten, but six in the top 20 as Sheinberg recorded a 17th place finish with a time of 2:21.14. Skiing her way to 20th place was senior Adrienne Jones (Bristol, VT) with a time of 2:21.67.
Brown is now ranked second in the Eastern Collegiate Skiing Conference behind the University of Massachusetts. The Bears will host the Brown Carnival this weekend in Loon, NH on Saturday February 1st and Sunday the 2nd both days starting at 9:30 a.m.
