Skiing Finishes First at USCSA Eastern Regional Championships

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Brown ski team won the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional Championship at West Mountain with races on Saturday and Sunday.

Brown finished third in Saturday's giant slalom with a team time of 4:40.79. MacConnell Division Skier of the Year, senior Ali Gunesch (Sandy, Ore.), was the event's top finisher with a time of 1:31.61. Senior Natalie Pearl (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) finished in the top-10 at seventh (1:33.52). Junior Lauren Stobierski (South Deerfield, Mass.) (1:34.89 - 15th), senior Sylvie Bertrand (Hanover, N.H.) (1:35.66 - 18th) and senior Sarah Bell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (1:36.34 - 20th) also had notable finishes for Brown.

The Bears came back to win the slalom on Sunday, with over a six second lead on second place Castleton. Pearl grabbed the top spot in the race with a time of 1:35.94 while Gunesch placed third (1:38.01). Stobierski (1:41.01) and Bertrand (1:41.50) rounded out the top-10 for the Bears, in ninth and 10th place, respectively.

With the team victory at the Eastern Regional Championships, Brown qualifies for the USCSA National Championships which will be held Tuesday, March 7 through Thursday, March 9 at Mount Bachelor in Bend, Ore.
