Skiing Wins Second-Straight Carnival

BENNINGTON, N.H. – The Brown ski team won both events for the second-straight week in the St. Anselm Carnival at Crotched Mountain on Saturday, Feb. 4 and Sunday, Feb. 5. Senior Ali Gunesch (Sandy, Ore.) took home the top finish in both the slalom and giant slalom.

Brown claimed with victory in the slalom on Saturday with Gunesch's first-place finish (1:47.33). Senior Natalie Pearl (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) just missed the podium but turned in a strong performance for fourth place (1:49.57). Other notable finishes for the Bears included senior Sylvie Bertrand (Hanover, N.H.) (1:50.32) and junior Lauren Stobierski (South Deerfield, Mass.) (1:51.74) in seventh and 12th, respectively.

Gunesch again finished first in the giant slalom on Sunday, with at time of 2:00.76 while Pearl also duplicated her fourth-place finish (2:01.65). Stobierski crossed the line in 11th place for the Bears (2:03.88).

Brown will next race at Blackwater/Proctor Academy in Andover, N.H. on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Sunday, Feb. 12.
