Skiing Wins Both Events at Clarkson Carnival

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Brown ski team won both giant slalom events in the Clarkson Carnival at Whiteface Mountain on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28. Senior Ali Gunesch (Sandy, Ore.) was the individual winner in Saturday's race.

On Friday, the Bears claimed a team victory in the giant slalom by six seconds with Gunesch finishing in second (2:09.07) and senior Natalie Pearl (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) right behind her in third (2:09.38). Junior Lauren Stobierski (South Deerfield, Mass.) placed fifth in 2:12.10.

Gunesch again led Brown to a team win, this time winning Saturday's race in 2:09.93. Pearl and Strobierski again took third (2:11.17) and fifth (2:11.83), respectively. Senior Sylvie Bertrand (Hanover, N.H.) also finished in the top-20, coming in 13th with a time of 2:15.17.

The Bears will next travel to Bennington, N.H. to race down Crotched Mountain on Saturday, Feb. 4 (giant slalom) and Sunday, Feb. 5 (slalom).
