Crotched Mountain, NH – The Brown women's skiing team posted a pair of wins, one in the slalom and one in the giant slalom, at Crotched Mountain on February 2nd and 3rd. In Saturday's slalom race, Brown finished with a total time of 5:42. 50, nearly 14 seconds ahead of second place Castleton State (5:56.33). St. Anselm rounded out the top three teams with a total time of 6:06.36. In Sunday's giant slalom race, Brown finished with a team total of 5:49.19, while St. Anselm took second (5:54.82) and Castleton State took third (6:01.68).
On Saturday, Brown swept the top two positions, with sophomores Nika Mosenthal (Plymouth, MA) and Amanda Engelhardt (Plymouth, NH) finishing with times of 1:53.24 and 1:53.41, respectively. Junior Maria Mastanduno (Hanover, NH) took third for the Bears, finishing with a two-run time of 1:55.85, good for fourth overall. Senior Catherine Stewart (Stratton, VT) was also in the top-10 overall, earning seventh place with a time of 1:59.34. Freshman Katie Liebowitz (Bedford, NY) rounded out Brown's top five finishers, taking 12th with a two-run time of 2:00.60.
Freshman Yasemin Benker (Istanbul, Turkey) and junior Emma Leblanc (Darien, CT) also finished both of their runs, as Benker finished in 19th overall (2:01.89) and Leblanc finished in 24th (2:07.10).
Leblanc led the Bears in Sunday's giant slalom, taking second overall with a two-run time of 1:55.31. Mosenthal grabbed fourth place (1:56.79), while Mastanduno took fifth (1:57.09). Stewart and Engelhardt were also in the top-10 overall, finishing in seventh (1:58.05) and ninth (1:58.90), respectively. Liebowitz also finished both of her runs, earning a total time of 2:01.96 to finish in 17th.
The Bears continue action next Saturday and Sunday with a pair of races at Wildcat Mountain in New Hampshire.
