Skiing Earns Two More Wins at Brown Carnival

GUNSTOCK, NH/BLACKWATER, NH – The Brown women's skiing team continued its dominating start to the 2012 season by winning its fifth and sixth races in a row at its own carnival. In Friday's giant slalom, held at Gunstock Mountain, Brown was led by sophomore Emma LeBlanc (Darien, CT), who finished second overall with a two-run time of 1:28.18. In Saturday's slalom race, held at Blackwater Mountain, Brown was led by senior Kia Mosenthal (Plymouth, NH), who won both runs to take first overall with a two-run time of 1:32.57.

On Friday, LeBlanc posted times of 43.31 (1st place in first run) and 44.87 to take second place overall with a total time of 1:28.18. Mosenthal and her younger sister, freshman Nika Mosenthal (Plymouth, NH) tied for fourth place with matching times of 1:30.26. Kia earned a first-run time of 44.57 and a second-run time of 45.69, while Nika posted a time of 44.64 in the first run and 45.62 in the second. Freshman Amanda Engelhardt (West Campton, NH) was 8th overall, earning a two-run time of 1:31.71, while junior Catherine Stewart (Stratton, VT) was right behind her in ninth overall with a time of 1:33.69. Junior Sasha Sassoon (London, England) and sophomore Ellen Richardson (Thetford Center, VT) also finished for the Bears, taking 27th and 46th overall with times of 1:38.36 and 1:56.59, respectively.

Brown dominated the Saturday with six skiers in the top 10 overall and winning by almost 17 seconds total to set a new Macconnell Division record. All eight of Brown's skiers finished both of their runs, as Kia Mosenthal was first overall with a total time of 1:32.57 and LeBlanc came in second overall with a total time of 1:34.17. Sophomore Maria Mastanduno (Hanover, NH) earned fifth place overall with a total time of 1:36.24, while Nika Mosenthal was eight overall with a total time of 1:37.30. Engelhardt finished in ninth place (1:38.54), while Stewart rounded out the top 10 (1:39.40). Sassoon finished in 31st overall with a two-run time of 1:47.11, while Richardson was 35th, earning a total time of 1:50.56.
