Bears Finish Second Carnival in 2nd Place
MT. CRANMORE, NH – The Brown women's ski team competed in its first slalom races of the season at Mt. Cranmore and came away with a second place finish on Friday and a third place finish on Saturday to tie for second overall on the weekend. With 14 points after the first two carnivals, the Bears are in fourth place, four points out of second place. The duo of senior Krista Consiglio (Bethany, CT) and junior Kia Mosenthal (Plymouth, NH) led Brown over the weekend, with Mosenthal taking third and fifth in the two races and Consiglio finishing in fourth both days.
In Friday's slalom, Brown's top five skiers all placed in the top 18 overall, with two skiers in each run finishing in the top 10. Consiglio's 44.70 (4th) led Brown in the first run, while Mosenthal's 45.61 (9th) was second for the Bears. In the second run, Mosenthal led the way for Brown, posting a time of 46.83 (4th), while sophomore Andrea Radke (St. Louis Park, MN) earned a time of 47.43 (5th). Overall, Mosenthal took third with a total time of 1:32.44, while Consiglio was fourth with a time of 1:32. 71. Radke finished just outside the top 10, earning a time of 1:34.37, good for 11th. Freshman Emma Leblanc (Darien, CT) finished in 16th (1:35.21), while junior Emily Simmons (Buffalo, NY) took 18th (1:35.96).
Sophomore Catherine Stewart (Stratton, VT) was solid in both of her runs, earning a total time of 1:42.10, good for 32nd, while sophomore Sasha Sassoon (London, England) and freshman Ellen Richardson both finished their runs, earning times of 1:49.23 (47th) and 2:16.30 (69th), respectively.
On day two, Brown again had two skiers in the top 10 for both runs, as Consiglio and Mosenthal posted first-run times of 42.11 (4th) and 42.51 (6th), respectively. The duo was reversed after the second run, as Mosenthal's 47.99 was 5th overall and Consiglio's 48.12 was 6th overall. Overall, Brown had its top four skiers place inside the top-23, led by Consiglio's 1:30.23 (4th) and Mosenthal's 1:30.50 (5th). Simmons claimed 19th place with a total time of 1:34. 96, while freshman Maria Mastanduno (Hanover, NH) claimed 23rd with a two-run time of 1:35.88.
Rounding out the Bears' finishers was Stewart in 35th (1:40.20), Sassoon in 42nd (1:45.71), Richardson in 46th (1:47.34) and Leblanc in 69th (2:11.09).
Brown continues action on January 22-23 when it travels to Waterville Valley where the Bears will compete in both the giant slalom and slalom.
