Alicia Sacramone Leads U.S. Team to a Gold Medal at World Championships

Stuttgart, Germany - In the finals of the team competition at the 2007 World Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, Brown sophomore gymnast, Alicia Sacramone (Winchester, MA) helped the U.S. Women's team win a gold medal and secure a spot in the 2008 Olympic Games.
Team USA took its first-place finish with a total score of 184.400, while China placed second with a 183.450 and Romania claimed third with a 178.100. Coming in fourth was Italy (175.450), Brazil in fifth (175.125), France in sixth (173.600), Great Britain in seventh (169.175) and Russia in eighth with a 164.525. This is the second women's team gold medal for the USA at a World Championships, and the first outside of the U.S.
In the team finals today, each team competed three athletes per event with each of their scores counting. Sacramone was able to help Team USA achieve the gold by nailing her routines on the vault, beam and floor. Her 15.750 on the vault, 15.600 on the beam and 15.325 on the floor helped put the US ahead of China.
