Seattle, WA - Brown freshmen gymnasts Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt (Venice, CA) and Alanna Kwoka (San Mateo, CA), as well as sophomore Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) competed in the USAG Collegiate Nationals in Seattle, Washington over the weekend.
The highlight was Kwoka earning All-America status on the vault with a 9.725 and 6th place in preliminaries. She and was the first alternate for event finals which gave her USAG second team All-America. Kwoka is only the second gymnast in Brown history to earn USAG All-America status since Debbie Furhmann in 1982. Kwoka had the best meet of her season on the first three events and obtained two personal bests on the vault and the beam (9.35). Kwoka posted a 9.425 on floor and a 35.55 in the all-around (10th place).
Sobuta's best performance of the meet was also on vault where she posted at 9.6, finishing in 12th place. While expected to make event finals on the balance beam, Sobuta fell on her mount, but was still solid enough for a 9.3. She finished with a 36.4 in the all-around (7th place).
Kirkham-Lewitt posted a 9.325 on vault, a 9.025 on bars, a 9.325 on the beam, a 9.125 on the floor and tallied a 35.80 in the all around (9th place).
Up next for the Bears, freshman Alicia Sacramone (Winchester, MA) will compete in the floor exercise in the NCAA National Championships, as well as be an alternate in the all-around at the University of Utah April 26-28.
