Bears Fall to Yale in Final Home Meet

Providence, RI - In its final home meet of the season, the Brown gymnastics team (9-14) lost to Yale, 189.925-181.825. The Bears honored their three members of the Class of 2008 - Sarah Durning (Roswell, GA), Hannah Goldstein (New York, NY), and Jessica Pestronk (Grand Blanc, MI) - prior to the competition, and were led by freshman Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX), who placed second in the vault and third in the all-around.
As a team, the Bears' best event of the night was the floor exercise, with freshman Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) leading the way with a 9.50, good for fourth. Goldstein followed in sixth with a 9.425, tying a personal high.
Zanelli set a new personal best with a 9.550 in the vault, placing second. Her fellow first-year, Vida Rivera (Jackson Heights, NY) set a personal best with the Bears' top finish on the uneven bars, a 9.425, good for third place. On the beam, Zanelli led Brown with a 9.350, good for fifth.
Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the ECAC Championship, hosted by William & Mary. After that, Brown's qualifying competitors will travel to Penn State for NCAA Regionals on April 12.
