Gymnastics Defeats Bridgeport, 190.375-188.725, With New Record on the Floor

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The women's gymnastics team scored a new school record 48.80 on the floor exercise, beating the old record of 48.70, en route to a 190.375-188.725 win over Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon.

Juniors Jayne Finst and Gina Verge led the Bears to the win, taking first and second in the all-around with a 38.925 and a 38.275 respectively.

Finst won the vault, tying with freshman Jessica Pouchett with a 9.625, while Verge claimed second place with a 9.550. Verge led the way on the bars with a career high 9.725, good for first place, while Finst took second with a 9.60, followed by freshman Sarah Cavett in third with a 9.55.

Finst also won the beam with a 9.80, while senior Sarah Keil took second with a career high 9.70. In the final event of the day, Finst added her name to the Brown record books in another event, tying the floor record with a career-high 9.90, winning that event. Freshman Amber Smith took third on the floor with a 9.85.

The Bears continue action on Saturday March 29, competing in the ECAC Championships held at Yale.
