Bears Take First in Tri-Meet with MIT and Springfield

The women's gymnastics team took first in a tri-meet with MIT and Springfield, scoring a 186.975. MIT took second with a 180.700, followed by Springfield in third with a 180.175. Senior Gina Verge (Scituate, MA) led the Bears, winning the all-around with a 38.05.

On the vault, senior Jayne Finst (Delray Beach, FL) led Brown with a first-place 9.5. Verge was second with a 9.35, followed by freshman Kate Slawsky (Westborough, MA) in fourth with a 9.275.

Brown swept first-fourth on the bars, with Verge placing first with a 9.6. Sophomore Sarah Cavett (Hixson, TN) came in second with a 9.55, while Finst took third with a 9.45. Junior Kelly Moran (Chevy Chase, MD) placed fourth with a 9.4.

On the beam, Brown claimed first-fifth, with Verge again leading the competition with a 9.8. Sophomore Mandi Baughman (Exeter, NH) took second with a 9.65, while junior Melissa Forziat (Garden City, NY) took third with a 9.55. Slawsky was next with a 9.4, while Finst took fifth with a 9.15.

Finally, on the floor, Finst led the Bears with a second place finish, scoring a 9.45. Slawsky was next with a 9.4, while Verge took fourth with a 9.3.

The Bears continue action on Sunday, March 14th, when they host Bridgeport and Rhode Island College in their final home meet of the season. The meet begins at 1:00.
