PROVIDENCE, RI - The women's gymnastics team earned a 185.025 to defeat visiting West Chester, which scored a 177.975, on Sunday afternoon at the Pizzitola Center in the Bears' final home meet of the season.
Brown won every event en route to the victory, including a team score of 47.600 on the floor exercise, its best event of the day. The Bears opened the meet with a team score of 46.500 on the vault, as freshman Sarah Durning (Roswell, GA) posted a 9.650, good for first. Junior Amber Smith (Fort Myers, FL) earned second place with a 9.475, while junior Jessica Pouchet (Miami, FL) posted a 9.225, tying for third place.
Junior Sarah Cavett (Chattanooga, TN) paced the Bears on the bars with a 9.450, good for first place, while Smith earned second place with a 9.225. Junior Jessica McNell (Darien, CT) turned in a third place finish, scoring a 9.100.
Freshman Jessica Pestronk (Grand Blanc, MI) led the way on the balance beam, winning with a score of 9.400. Senior Melissa Forziat (Garden City, NY) tied for second place with a 9.350, while Smith finished in fourth with a 9.300.
Finally on the floor exercise, Forziat led the way with a 9.700, good for first, while Smith followed with a 9.575. Pouchet earned a 9.550, good for third, while Pestronk rounded out the top four with a 9.475.
Smith won the all-around competition, scoring a 37.575.
The Bears continue action next Saturday, March 12, when they face Bridgeport on the road in a 1:00 p.m. meet.
