Gymnastics Defeats URI and MIT, Improving to 7-5 on the Season

PROVIDENCE, RI - The women's gymnastics team improved to 7-5 on the season, defeating URI, 190.025-187.525, and MIT, 190.025-185.275, in a tri-meet on Sunday afternoon at the Pizzitola Center.

Brown was led by senior Gina Verge (Scituate, MA) led the Bears with a first place finish in the all-around, scoring a 38.600. She won both the bars, with a 9.750, and the beam, with a 9.700, along her way to winning the all-around. Additionally, senior Jayne Finst (Delray Beach, FL) placed second in the all-around with a 38.375. She placed first in the other two events to help lead Brown, scoring a 9.575 on the vault and a 9.850 on the floor.

Finst also placed second on the bars, while sophomore Mandi Baughman (Exeter, NH) earned a second place finish on the beam with a 9.550. Freshman Katherine Slawsky (Westborough, MA) also performed well on the beam, scoring a 9.425.

Rounding out Brown's top finishers was Verge, who notched a 9.725 on the floor, good for third place.

The Bears continue action next weekend when they travel to Cornell to compete in the 2004 Ivy League Classic.
