Kingston, RI - The Brown gymnastics team was defeated 189.850-183.550 by the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday evening. Junior Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) earned the Bears only first-place finish with a 9.600 on the beam.

On the vault, Sobuta was Brown's top finisher with a 9.525 for third place, followed by Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) with a 9.450 and freshman Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) with a 9.375.

Zanelli lead the Bears on the bars with a 9.500 for fifth place, followed by Sobuta with a 9.050. Sobuta's 9.600 on the beam earned first place, while Zanelli recorded a 9.050.

Sobuta and sophomore Stephanie Albert (Sanibel, FL) tied for third place on the floor exercise, each recording a 9.475. Brown's next best performance was turned in by Binkley, who earned a 9.050.

In the all-around competition, URI's Dani Riportella earned first with a combined score of 38.150, as Brown's Sobuta secured second with a 37.650.
