Gymnastics Team Earns Season-High 189.575 in Meet Against Bridgeport

Providence, RI - The Brown gymnastics team lit up for a season-high 189.575 during today's gymnastics meet against Bridgeport, but it wasn't enough to overcome the tough Purple Knights who turned in a solid 191.150 to win the meet. Sophomore Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) earned Brown's only first-place finish of the day, as she scored a personal best 9.825 on the floor exercise as the Bears dominated the event with a team score of 48.350.

Also earning a personal best on the floor was junior Helen Segal (Los Atlos, CA) with a stellar score of 9.8. Bridgeport's Lorraine Galow secured third place with a 9.750, but Brown's Katie Goddard (Kings Park, NY) earned fourth with a personal best of 9.675. Also recording solid scores was freshman Lauren Tucker (Farmington Hills, MI) with a 9.550 for sixth, Carli Wiesenfeld (Atlanta, GA) with a 9.5 for ninth and senior Whitney Diederich (Naperville, IL) posted a 9.4 to round out the scoring for the Bears.

Bridgeport locked up first and second places finishes on the vault, but Brown earned third through fifth. Wiesenfeld lead Bruno with a 9.600 for third, followed by Binkley's 9.575 for second and freshman Lilly Siems (Baltimore, MD) with a 9.550 for fifth. Tucker gave a solid effort for a 9.425, followed by sophomore Melissa Bowe's (Barnstable, NY) 9.325. Bridgeport edged the Bears on the vault, as the Purple Knights turned in a total score of 47.925 to Bruno's 47.475.

Again, the Purple Knights posted the top two scores on the beam, but Brown's Tucker turned in a 9.750 for third. Binkley owned fifth place with a 9.650 and Zanelli came in right behind with a sixth place score of 9.550. In seventh was Wiesenfeld with a 9.55, Siems with a 9.350 for ninth and junior Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt posted a 9.125 for 10th. Brown tallied a team score of 47.825, just .50 behind the Purple Knights.

On the bars, Bridgeport's Miranda Der posted a 9.7 for first place, followed by Lorraine Galow's 9.6 for second. Bowe turned in Brown's top score with a 9.450 for third, followed by Kirkham-Lewitt's 9.325 for sixth place. Siems was Brown's next high scorer with a 9.125 for eighth, followed by Zanelli with a 9.050 for ninth. Bruno tallied a 45.925, as Bridgeport earned a 47.400.

The Bears will be on the road for the remainder of February, which include stops at Arizona on Feb 13, Oklahoma on Feb. 20, and then the squad heads to the Ivy Classic hosted by Yale at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28.
