Gymnastics Team Turns In Highest Team Total Of The Season In Cornell Meet

Ithaca, NY - The Bears continued their steady improvement, turning in season highs in bars, beam and floor, in this afternoon's meet with Cornell. Brown's 184.975 team total was this year's highest yet, but the Bears fell short as Cornell finished with a 187.325.

Freshman Brittany Anderson turned in Brown's top performance in the all-around, finishing second with a 36.82 mark, while senior Amber Smith took third with a 36.453.

Brown won the floor exercise turning in a season high 46.425 team score. Leading the way for the Bears was Smith, sophomore Jessica Pestronk and freshman Rachel Foodman who all finished second with a 9.4.

Brown went 2-3-4 on the beam, for their 46.7 team total, another season high for the Bears. Anderson's 9.525 was good for second, while freshman Jennifer Sobuta finished third with a 9.425 and Smith rounded out the top finishers taking fourth with a 9.4.

Senior Sarah Cavett led Brown on the bars finishing fourth with a 9.425. Anderson and freshman Hannah Goldstein finished with a 9.275 and a 9.2, for a sixth and seventh place finish.

On the vault, the Bears tied their season high mark, a 46.575 as senior Jessica McNell turned in Brown's top mark, 9.45, good for a third place finish. Also placing for the Bears was Sobuta and Anderson who finished fifth and seventh with 9.35 and 9.3.

The Bears will continue action, tomorrow afternoon as they take on Cortland State for a 12:00 p.m. meet.
