Durham, NH - The Brown gymnastics team placed fourth at a meet held at Lundholm Gymnasium at the University of New Hampshire on Friday evening. The Wildcats came in first place with 193.625, the University of Alaska in second (190.075), the University of Bridgeport in third (189.100) and then Brown with a 181.600.
Junior Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) was Brown's top finisher on the vault, earning a 9.475 for 12th place. Freshman Chelsey Binkley (Barnstable, MA) posted a 9.425, and sophomore Stephanie Albert (Sanibel, FL) had a 9.325.
Senior Hannah Goldstein (New York, NY) earned the Bears top finish on the bars with a 9.475, and freshman Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) had a 9.050. On the beam, Albert placed eighth with a 9.575, and Zanelli earned a 9.450.
Junior Whitney Diederich (Naperville, IL), the ECAC's Specialist of the Week last week, finished in 14th with a 9.275 on the floor exercise. Following behind was Binkley with a 9.200 and then Goldstein (9.075).
Binkley locked up third place in the all-around with a 36.00, and Sobuta claimed fourth place with a 35.525.
The Bears will be back at home on Sunday, Feb. 3, to take on the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College in the Ocean State Challenge at 1:00 p.m. The Bears will be showing their support for Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing special Breast Cancer Awareness leotards, and are asking that all of their fans wear pink.
