Brown Gymnastics Finishes in Third During Home Opener

Providence, RI - During the Brown gymnastic team's home opener this afternoon, the Bears finished in third place with a team score of 185.825. Bowling Green State University earned first place (191.475), while Bridgeport finished in second (188.675), M.I.T. in fourth (180.600) and West Chester (174.224) rounded out the scoring in fifth.

Jennifer Sobuta (Maynard, MA) was Brown's only gymnast to earn a first-place finish today, as she set a personal record on the balance beam with a 9.800. BGSU's Meg Saterlee finished in second with a 9.725, and Bridgeport's Lorraine Galow placed third (9.675).

Sobuta was also Brown's top finisher on the vault, earning a 9.575 for fifth place. BGSU locked up first, second and third, as Breanne Guy 9.825 was the top finisher with a 9.825. Jacquelyn Bernhardt placed second (9.775), and Morgan Balzer in third (9.600).

On the bars, freshman Victoria Zanelli (Katy, TX) was Bruno's top finisher with a 9.550 for fourth. Freshman Vida Rivera (Jackson Heights, NY) turned in a solid 9.375, and Sobuta posted a 9.050.

Freshman Chelsey Binkley (Marietta, GA) led the Bears on the floor exercise with a fourth place finish (9.650). M.I.T's Julia Zimmerman secured first with a 9.750, followed by BGSU's Queenita Gamble (9.675) and Bridgeport's Lorraine Galow (9.675) for second.

Sobuta earned third place in the all-around, earning a personal best 38.025. BGSU's Guy was first (38.475), followed by Bridgeport's Galow (38.400). Also finishing well for Bruno was Zanelli (37.250), and Binkley (36.850).
