Gymnastics Earns Three Wins In First Home Meet Of The Season

The Brown women's gymnastics team earned Three wins on Wednesday evening, improving to 4-2 on the season. Brown placed first with a 185.350, edging out Southern Connecticut, who took second with a 185.275. Vermont (175.000) and MIT (173.750) rounded out the four-team field for Brown's first home meet of the season.

Sophomore Jayne Finst led the Bears with two first place finishes and one second place finish, while taking second in the All-Around competition. She scored a 9.625 on the vault and a 9.500 on the floor, grabbing first, while her 9.375 on the beam was good for third. In the six-gymnast field for the all-around, she placed second with a 37.675.

Other top-three finishers for the Bears included senior Virginia Nuckols, who placed second on the vault (9.550), sophomore Gina Verge, who tied for first on the bars with Finst (9.500), and freshman Melissa Forziat, who took third on the floor with a 9.550.

The Bears continue action on Saturday, February 2, when they travel to Penn for a 1:00 p.m. contest. It marks the first Ivy match of the year for the Bears, who will host the 2002 Ivy League Classic in their next home meet, February 24.
