Bears Open Up 2006 Season With Third Place Finish At University Of Denver Meet

Denver, CO - The gymnastics team (0-2) opened up their 2006 season with a third place finish at the University of Denver meet, turning in a team score of 182.65. University of Denver finished first with a 195.4 team mark, while Towson finished second with a 191.525.

Freshman Jennifer Sobuta posted two of the Bears highest team marks, leading Brown on the vault with a 9.55 and on the beam finishing with a 9.325.

In the all around freshman Brittany Anderson turned in a 36.5, finishing six. Anderson's top performance came on the bars, finishing with a 9.4. Finishing right behind Anderson was senior co-captain Amber Smith. Smith finished seventh with a 35.975 and led the Bears on the floor exercise, turning in a 9.4.

Senior Sarah Cavett finished the uneven bars with a 9.6, giving her fifth place, while sophomore Hannah Goldstein turned in Brown's top performance on the vault, finishing with a 9.4.

On the beam, senior co-captain Mandi Baughman and sophomore Jessica Pestronk both recorded a 9.275.

Brown will return to action Sunday, January 29, as they will host MIT, Ithaca and Rhode College, in its home opener, at 1:00 p.m.
