The Brown women's gymnastics team defeated host Springfield on Sunday afternoon, 178.750-175.050, earning their first win of the year and improving to 1-2 on the season.
Sophomore Jayne Finst led the Bears with two first place finishes and one second place finish, along with winning the all-around competition. She scored a 9.550 on the beam and a 9.400 on the floor, grabbing first, while her 9.150 on the vault was second. Finst won the all-around with a 36.975.
Other top-three finishers for the Bears included sophomore Jillian Day, who placed third on the vault (9.000), junior Jamie Shapiro, who took third on the beam (8.975), and seniors Virginia Nuckols who took third on the floor (9.150) and Jessica Buck who tied for second on the bars (9.000).
Sophomore Gina Verge also tied for second on the bars with a 9.000 and finished in second place in the all-around competition with a 34.550.
The Bears continue action on Wednesday, January 23, when they host MIT, Vermont, and Southern Connecticut in a 7:00 p.m. meet in the Pizzitola Center.
