Gymnastics Falls to Bridgeport at Beauty and the Beast Meet, 194.050-190.275

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Caroline Morant won event titles on vault and bars, but Brown University gymnastics fell to the University of Bridgeport, 194.050 to 190.275, in its Beauty and the Beast meet on Friday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

In front of a standing-room-only crowd and competing alongside the Brown wrestling team, Morant (Chicago, Ill.) led the Bears with her pair of titles and a second-place finish in the all-around in a dual meet against the Purple Knights.

In the all-around, Morant took second place with her 38.575 while junior Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) came in fourth with a 37.025 in her first all-around performance of the season. Morant won vault with a 9.800 and bars with a 9.750.

As a team, Brown scored a season-high 48.325 on floor along with a 48.075 on vault, a 47.775 on bars, and a 46.100 on beam.

On the other end of the gym, the Brown wrestling team fell to Binghamton, 20-16.

Opening on vault, Morant won with a season-high 9.800 with sophomore Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) aiding her with a 9.675, tying her season high. Olson posted a 9.550 while freshmen Anne Christman (Amherst, N.H.) and Erin Howell (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) scored a 9.550 and 9.500 respectively.

Morant again paced the Bears on bars with her season-best 9.750 for first place. Junior Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) registered a season-high 9.675, and Howell tallied a 9.600. Junior Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) checked in with a 9.550, and Olson rounded out the scoring with a 9.200.

On floor, Morant claimed second place behind a 9.825 while Olson tied her personal best with a 9.750. Christman scored a season-high 9.675, Ryan notched a 9.625, and Green tallied a 9.450.

Junior Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) led Brown with a season-high 9.650 on beam with Ryan, Morant, and Green recording a 9.550, 9.200, and 9.150 apiece.

Next, Brown competes at Yale in a dual meet on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1:00 p.m.
