Gymnastics Scores 193.4, Bears Win Meet vs. Lady Lions, Tigers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics recorded a season high on floor in the fourth rotation as the Bears won their home meet against the Lady Lions of Lindenwood and the Tigers of Towson with a score of 193.400 on Sunday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Trailing Towson University 144.825-144.525 after three rotations, Brown posted a season-best 48.875 on floor in the final rotation to win the meet. The Tigers came in second with a 193.125 while Lindenwood University finished in third with a 192.775.

Sophomore Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) registered a career-high 9.900 to win the meet title on floor. Two other Bears set or tied personal bests on the event as fellow sophomores Brooke Williams (Clyde Hill, Wash.) and Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) notched scores of 9.800 and 9.775 respectively. Junior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) supported the trio with a 9.750, and freshman Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) scored a 9.650.

In the team's first rotation on vault, Morant again paced the Bears with a 9.750 to tie for second while Walters registered a 9.725, finishing fifth. Junior Corey Holman (Westford, Mass.) and Mitchell each scored a 9.625, and senior Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, N.Y.) posted a 9.425 to help Brown score a 48.150 as a team.

On bars, the Bears recorded a 48.475 as a team to take a 96.625-96.100 lead on Towson after two rotations. Junior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) and Walters each scored a 9.775 to lead Brown and come in a tie for third. Morant notched a 9.700, freshman Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) posted a 9.650, and Mitchell finished with a 9.575.

Proceeding to beam, Olson and freshman Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) each scored a 9.725 to tie for second in the event, with the score marking a personal best for Olson. Freshman Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) registered a 9.650, Walters notched a 9.575, and Brown finished with a 47.900 on the event.

In the all-around standings, Walters came in second with a 38.825 while Morant tied for third with a 38.575, and Mitchell registered a 38.125.

Next, Brown competes at the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before the team hosts Yale in its final home meet of the season on March 15 at 1 p.m.
