Gymnastics Hosts Bridgeport, No. 25 UNH, SCSU for “Pink Meet”

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics will compete in its second home meet of the season when the Bears host Bridgeport, No. 25 New Hampshire, and Southern Connecticut St. for the team's "Pink Meet" on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Brown will hold its annual "Pink Meet" for breast cancer awareness on Monday. In support of the cause, the Bears will wear special leotards for the occasion and encourage fans to wear pink to the competition. 

Brown scored a season-high 193.475 placing fourth in a quad meet at the University of New Hampshire along with Towson University and West Virginia University on Feb. 8 at Lundholm Gym.

The Bears posted a season-high 48.650 on bars while tallying a 48.450 on floor, a 48.350 on vault, and a 48.025 on beam as a team. UNH won the meet with a score of 196.525 ahead of West Virginia (195.300) and Towson (194.475).

In the all-around, junior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) led the Bears with a season-high 38.850, finishing fourth. In her first career all-around performance, sophomore Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied a 38.425 for fifth. 

The University of New Hampshire enters the weekend as the No. 25 team in the nation and the No. 3 team in the Northeast Region with an average team score of 195.095. The Wildcats rank 12th nationally on beam (48.890) and scored a season-high 196.525 at home on Feb. 8. Kelsey Aucoin ranks a tie for 24th in the nation on vault (9.875).

The University of Bridgeport comes into Monday's meet ranked fifth in the Northeast and first in Division II in team score with a 192.769 average. The Purple Knights tallied a season-high 194.125 at West Chester on Feb. 7. Sasha Tsikhanovich ranks 14th in the country on floor with a 9.888 average.

Southern Connecticut State University carries an average team score of 189.096 into the weekend, ranking No. 13 in the region and No. 6 in Division II. The Owls posted a season-high score of 190.450 at Yale on Jan. 31. 

Over four weeks of competition thus far in 2014, Brown has collected six ECAC weekly honors. Sophomore Tori Kinamon (Peachtree City, Ga.) and freshman Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) began the run, earning Coaches Choice and Rookie of the Week accolades respectively on Jan. 20.

On Jan. 27, sophomore Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) won Gymnast of the Week laurels after taking the all-around at Brown's home opener. The next week, on Feb. 3, Ryan again garnered Rookie of the Week plaudits. 

Most recently, on Feb. 10, junior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) captured Gymnast of the Week, and senior Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, N.Y.) gained Specialist of the Week honors. 

Brown ranks first in the ECAC and sixth in the Northeast Region in team score with an average of 192.450. The Bears rank first in the conference on bars (48.394) and second in the league on vault (47.838).

In the conference's all-around rankings, sophomore Jorden Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind.) ranks third with a 38.425, and classmate Caroline Morant (Chicago, Ill.) stands in fifth with a 38.208 average.

On vault, junior Corey Holman (Westford, Mass.) ranks tied for third (9.675), Morant ranks fifth (9.669), and freshman Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) is 10th (9.575).

On bars, Morant ranks in a tie for third (9.725), freshman Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) is fifth (9.700), classmate Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) is in a tie for seventh (9.656), and junior Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich.) sits in ninth (9.650).

On beam, Mitchell ranks eighth (9.650), and junior Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) stands in ninth (9.637). On floor, Morant ranks sixth (9.725) and senior Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, N.Y.) is seventh (9.719). 

After Monday's home meet, Brown returns to competition at the Ivy Classic at Penn on Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
