Walters, Benz Secure ECAC Gymnastics Weekly Awards

ECAC Division I Women's Gymnastics Weekly Release

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Sophomore Diana Walters (Austin, Texas) earned Corvias ECAC Division I Co-Gymnast of the Week and senior Madeline Benz (Chester, N.J.) received the Coaches' Choice selection to help the Brown gymnastics team take home multiple ECAC awards for the fourth consecutive week. Walters was honored for the third week in a row, earning her second straight Gymnast of the Week accolade.

Walters had the best meet of her career against Springfield College, as she set new career-highs on every individual event and the all-around. She placed first on vault (9.80), bars (9.80), beam (9.775) and in the all-around (39.05), and finished second on floor (9.675). Her scores on vault and bars, as well as her all-around score, are the third-best in school history and helped lead the Bears to a first-place finish and a season-high score.

Competing for the first time since her freshman year, Benz turned in a career-best 9.550 on bars to help Brown seize first place at Springfield College. Benz spent the first three years of her collegiate career rehabbing injuries, but her dedication to the team and support of her teammates has always remained strong.

The Bears, now locked into first place in the ECAC team total rankings, return to action on Saturday at the University of New Hampshire.
