Meyer Takes Fifth on Beam at USAG Collegiate Nationals; Two Bears Earn All-American Accolades
SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA – Senior Julia Meyer (Granite City, IL) represented the Brown gymnastics team this afternoon in the event finals of the 2013 USAG Collegiate National Championships, held at Centenary College's Gold Dome.
Meyer, who helped the Bears qualify to team finals in their first appearance at the National Championships, earned a spot in the event finals on beam after turning in score of 9.700 in the team qualifying round on Friday. She improved upon that performance in Saturday's team finals, tying her career-high with a 9.825 in her second beam routine of the weekend and helping Brown to a fourth place finish in the prestigious competition.In today's session she was equally impressive, competing against ten other finalists and producing a score of 9.800 to earn a fifth-place medal.
Additionally, two of Brown's gymnasts earned USAG All-American honors for their performances over the course of the weekend, concluding an historic season for the Bears. Meyer earned first team accolades on the beam, while senior Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA) recieved second team selections on vault and floor.
