Several Gymnasts Produce Season-High Scores in Brown's Meet at George Washington
WASHINGTON, DC – The Brown gymnastics team concluded a busy week of competition with a meet at the Charles E. Smith Center on the campus of George Washington University this afternoon. The Maryland Terps led the competition, turning in a team score of 196.150. The Colonials claimed the second spot with a total of 195.325, the Towson Tigers were third with 194.025 and the Brown Bears finished fourth with 191.550.
On the floor, the Bears' first event of the afternoon, senior Nicole Abdo (Largo, FL) turned in the top score for Brown, finishing in a tie for eighth, as she matched her season-high score with a 9.800. Senior Emily Lutfey (Los Angeles, CA) took the 17th spot with a 9.675, while sophomore Danielle Hoffman (Bedford, NY) turned in a score of 9.550 to grab the 20th spot. Freshman Alexandra Chretien (Commerce Township, MI) finished in 21st with a season-high score of 9.525 and freshman Corey Holman (Westford, MA) earned a score of 9.050 to tie for 22nd with classmate Diana Walters (Austin, TX). The Bears compiled a team score of 47.600 on the apparatus.
Brown earned its highest team score of the day on vault, combining for a 48.450. Junior Rebecca Freedman (Plainview, NY) led the charge with a season-high score of 9.775, good for sixth place. Brown also had several other impressive performances, as Holman finished 13th with a season-high 9.725 and junior Katie Rogers (Bethesda, MD) took 15th with a score of 9.700, also a season-high. Walters was 19th with a 9.650, while Hoffman and Lutfey tied for 21st, each with a 9.600.
Chretien led Brown's team performance on the bars, scoring a 9.700 to take the tenth overall spot. She was followed by Abdo who finished 16th with a score of 9.675. Freshman Stephanie Choo (Centerville, OH) was 19th with a 9.550, while senior co-captain Kasey Haas (Charlotte, NC) grabbed the 21st spot with a 9.450 performance. Lutfey and senior co-captain Lauren Hall (Charlton, MA) rounded out the Brown performers in 22nd and 23rd, contributing scores of 9.075 and 8.950 to the team's score of 47.450.
The squad finished the day on the beam, combining for a total of 48.050, with Lutfey finishing sixth after tying her season-high score of 9.775. Abdo was 14th with a 9.675 and Holman earned a score of 9.575 to take 18th. Meyer was 20th with a 9.500, Walters finished right behind her in 21st with a 9.475 and sophomore Allison Rubenstein (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) turned in a score of 9.200 to take 22nd.
The Bears will travel to Ithaca, New York this Saturday to compete in the ECAC Championships at Cornell University. Competition is set to begin at 12:00pm.
