Sara Carver-Milne Adds Six to 2013 Gymnastics Roster
Providence, R.I. – Head coach Sara Carver-Milne, entering her 12th season with the Brown gymnastics team, has recently announced the addition of six newcomers to the 2013 roster: Delaney Brow, Stephanie Choo, Alexa Cohen, Alexandra Chretien, Corey Holman and Diana Walters.
A Manhattan Beach, Calif., native, Brow was a three-year Level 10 gymnast and a member of West Coast Elite Gymnastics. A two-time Level 10 NIT Qualifier and a two-time Level 10 Regional Qualifier, Brow was the Level 9 regional bar champion, finishing in fourth place in the all-around at the Level 9 state championship. Additionally, she earned the all-around state title for both Level 6 and Level 7. Brow attended Mira Costa High School where she was an honor roll recipient all four years, and a member of the National Honor Society. She was awarded the Charlaine Deatherage award as a junior and volunteered at the VCA Animal Hospital through the Peter Zippi Fund for Animals.
Choo, a Centerville, Ohio native, was a four-year Level 10 competitor and a member of Tops Gymnastics. A three-time regional qualifier, Choo was a Fox News Athlete of the Week in 2012 and a two-time recipient of the Competitive Spirit Award by Tops Gymnastics. She was a four-time USAG Ohio state qualifier and a three-time USAG Region 5 regional qualifier. Choo was also a 2008 Flip Fest Athlete of the Week and a Scholarship Award Winner at the Tops Super Challenge, which is given to the Level 10 All-Around champion. Choo attended The Miami Valley School, where she was an AP Scholar, Biology Olympiad Semi-Finalist, and a recipient of the Love of Science Award.
Cohen, a Henrico, Va., native and graduate of Mills E. Godwin High School, was a member of Aerial East Gymnastics. A two-year Level 9 and 10 gymnast, Cohen was also a state and regional competitor. At the 2012 AAU Nationals, she finished second on vault and floor, third on beam and fourth in the all-around. She also received the Woman of Steele Award and was the BHSL Central Region bar champion. Cohen was also an All-District and All-Region team honoree. At Mills E. Godwin, Cohen was a member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society and was a four-year honor roll student.
Chretien, a two-year Level 10 competitor and a member of Oakland Gymnastics, placed first on vault, bars, floor and all-around at the 2010 Level 9 regionals, and won the title on bars and all-around at the 2010 Eastern Nationals. The team MVP in 2010, Chretien was a JO National Training Camp qualifier. A native of Commerce Township, Mich., Chretien graduated from Walled Lake Northern where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and received the President's Award in Education.
Holman, a member of Walker's Gymnastics and a two-year Level 10 gymnast, placed 10th at the 2012 regionals. Holman finished third in Level 10 at the Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament and was second on vault and beam, seventh on floor and 15th on bars. Holman was a Level 9 state and regional All-Around champion in 2010, and was the regional vault champion earning sixth place, including an eighth place finish in the all-around at the Eastern National Championships. Holman was a Level 9 state All-Around Champion in 2009 and earned seventh in the Regional Competition, becoming the first alternate for the Regional team for the Eastern National Competition in Mississippi. She was a member of the National Honor Society, earned the Colby Book Award, the Westford Academy Academic Achievement Award and the Westford Farmer's Market Volunteer Award for volunteering over 250 hours of her time.
Walters competed for the Crenshaw Athletic Club and was a two-year Level 10 gymnast. A team captain, Walters helped her squad to a 2012 Texas State Championship and was a recipient of the 2012 Team Spirit Award. A Region 3 Championship qualifier, Walters placed 10th all-around at the Texas State Championships, finished second all-around at the Alamo Classic, and earned second on the beam. In 2011, Walters was a JO National qualifier, and placed second all-around at the Alamo Classic and 11th at the Region 3 Championships. In 2010, she helped her team to a first place finish at Western Nationals and, individually, she earned second on the floor. A 2009 Region 3 Championship Qualifier, Walters received her team's Most Improved Award. She was a member of the National Honor Society, International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, National Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Leadership Council officer.
