Brown Gymnastics Earns Third at Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Conn – The Brown University gymnastics team compiled a team score of 190.375 to finish in third place at a tri-meet hosted at Bridgeport University on Thursday evening. Three-time USAG Champion Bridgeport captured the meet title with a 195.675, followed by Southern Connecticut State University with a 190.975. Brown compiled season-high team scores on both the bars and on the floor, while multiple Bears earned career highs during the meet.

On the vault, the Bears top scorer was second-place finisher Michelle Shnayder, who recorded a career-high score of 9.825.  Katie Goddard followed in seventh with a career high 9.700 and Emily Lutfey posted a 9.650 for ninth.  Next, Danielle Hoffman earned a 9.200, followed by a 9.100 by Katie Rogers and Rebecca Freedman rounded out Brown's scorers with a 9.025 as the squad tallied a 47.475 on the event (3rd).

On the bars, Brown's top finisher was Julia Meyer, who tied her career high with a 9.725 for fourth place, and Nicole Abdo followed close behind with a sixth place score of 9.675.  Kasey Haas finished in ninth with a 9.575 and Shnayder recorded the 11th best bar routine with a 9.550.   Carli Wiesenfeld (9.375) and Lilly Siems (9.300) rounded out the scoring to help Brown to a season-high score of 47.900 on the event (2nd).

Julia Meyer (9.525) finished in seventh and Shnayder (9.500) earned eighth to be the Bears' top two performers on the balance beam.   Abdo recorded a 9.350 for 12th and Allison Rubenstein came in 13th place with a 9.325.  Rounding out the scoring was Hoffman (8.575) and Lutfey (8.475) as Brown totaled a 46.275 (3rd) overall on the event.

On the floor exercise, Shnayder turned in a career-high 9.875 for second place, and was followed by Brown's Goddard with a career high 9.800 for sixth.   Lutfey posted a 9.775 for eighth as Hoffman finished in 11th and tied her personal best with a 9.675.   Next, Abdo earned a 9.600 for 14th place and Rubenstein finished next for the Bears with a 9.450 for 16th to give Bruno a season-high 48.725 (2nd) on the event.

Shnayder finished in second in the all-around competition with a 38.750, as Bridgeport's Monica Mesalles Sallares earned first with a 39.275. 

The Bears will now host Cornell in a dual meet at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11.
